Village Update for December 20, 2018
The holiday activities continue despite lack of snow. The NASP decorating contest has resulted in many homes looking very festive. Judging was last night so we should learn who the winners were soon. It is impressive to watch so many homes become festive for the holiday. I had an opportunity to hear the Methodist Church carolers on Sunday and they were great. Thank you for helping celebrate the holidays.
The ice rink is almost completely set up. As soon as 3 or more days in the 20’s are forecast we will add the liner and the water. We have to freeze 6-8 inches of water to get it started. It looks like that may happen right after Christmas.
I know our e-blast last week regarding 911 identification numbers confused many of you. They are simply your house numbers. By NYS law the must be at least 4 inches in height and plainly visible from the street.
We have made a staffing change in the highway department. Brad Geffert is the interim leader and is doing a great job. He can be reached at the highway barn 315-483-8669. I know you will notice a difference in how things get completed around the village.
Tonight at 5pm we have what I expect will be our final public workshop regarding the site of the village hall. This should provide us with all the information possible to make a selection. Our December Board meeting follows at 6:30pm with a short agenda. There will be a report out regarding the Post Flood Recovery Workshop held in October.
The 2018 NYS Economic Development funding winners were announced on Tuesday. We were awarded $82,500 (our request) to update our LWRP (Master Plan) and our zoning code. Resiliency needs to be addressed and the two documents need to be made consistent, in addition to a general update. Like many grants these take time to get started. We expect to have a contract with NYS by July 2019. After we receive the contract we can advertise for bids to do the facilitation work.
From all of the village employees we wish you all a very happy and healthy holiday!
