Village Update – April 29, 2019
We are moving into full flood protection mode. The current water level is 247.25. Last week’s forecast indicated another 11 inches by May 24th. That would bring us to approximately 247.9, a foot lower than 2017 but above our flood stage of 247.3. I will be sending frequent updates about both our plans which I expect will change often and the conditions and forecasts as they change.
Yesterday, NYS Fire showed up with an aqua-dam which was placed on the empty lot on the east end of Greig St. This will save us 50 pallets of sandbags. This expense is an NYS expense and not something the village has to pay for.
On Friday the 26th, NYS began making sandbags with NYS Department of Corrections resources at the Sodus DOT facility. Some of those bags will be used in Sodus Point; others will be used in Huron and Wolcott.
Today we expect the delivery of the 6 pumps that were ordered. Wayne County Highway will come tomorrow and service them for placement on Wednesday. The Sheriff divers are scheduled to come later in the day on Wednesday to plug the drains so that we can pump.
On Wednesday, the Wayne County Department of Corrections will be at the highway barn to begin to make sandbags. They are tasked with making 40,000 bags over the next 2-3 weeks. All bags will be wrapped and stored until the decision is made to place the bags. When that decision is made, NYS resources will come into the village to complete that task which is expected to take approximately 5 days. We do not expect residents to have to handle sandbags.
