Many of you have seen and commented on political flags with vulgarity on them. These flags and others like it are protected by a Supreme Case from 1971, Cohen v. California. Another municipality dropped all charges against a similar flag in 2020 after the ACLU reminded the parties of this decision. We have spoken to those choosing to display these flags and expressed our concerns.. This is all we can legally do.
Our water levels are up more than 3 inches since the first of July. We are now above the USACE forecast which has the level rising another inch in the next 4 weeks. This is not a normal year at all and much of the fluctuation is attributed to the weather. This will help all of us keep our boats in the water longer than first thought. We are still 10 inches below the long term average and 17 inches below the level last year.
The paving schedule has been pushed to August. Milling will occur the week of the 2nd and be followed immediately by the final paving. This week the crews will get all the box out areas completed and begin the leveling process. There are a few areas where the roadway needs to be built up significantly to promote drainage. Next week the focus will be on the pump stations. The landscapers will work on the area where the construction trailer is and begin to get some of the paver work completed. There are also broken curbs to replace, broken sidewalks to replace and several other lose ends that will be the focus of the next 3 weeks.
The Sodus Point Pro/Am fishing tournament is this weekend. Many are already here finding their lucky spot. The Captains meeting is Friday at 6PM and the tournament is Saturday and Sunday. Weigh in will be in the Krenzer boat lot for those interested.
On Saturday, September 4th we will have the Sunshine Auto Parade followed by a Ring of Fire and Fireworks at 9pm. It’s never too early to make your plans.
Feel free to call or email with any questions or concerns.
