2. Summer Activities
3. Village Notes
4. Some Fascinating History
1 – Water Level Updates
We are now above 246.69 up about 1.5 inches in the last 2 weeks. The USACE forecast for May 29th is 246.77.
The flood gates are now closed, and the pumps are running. The highway department is working with the engineer and the contractor to make the transition more straight forward. This will lead to O&M documentation which is still to be delivered as part of the project.
We will see 247’, probably a bit above. The ball field will be soggy and some of the lowest lawns will be soggy. We will have water coming over sea walls in any big windstorms. Otherwise, we should be okay.
2- Summer Activities
As boating season gets underway, please refresh yourself on safe boating. Remember to put your plug in before launching, know who has the ROW and watch your wake. If your wake causes damage to another boat or property, you are responsible for the damages. There are several Safe Boating classes going on this spring. There is one in Sodus Point sponsored by SBJSA. To register: https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/179899
SALE Around the Point, sponsored by NASP will be held on Saturday June 4th. A booth in Willow Park is only $10. If you plan to participate in anyway, please email Kathy Barretta at: SodusPoint@Hotmail.com
The Fire Department Pot of Gold is also on June 4th. Contact a firefighter for tickets.
July 2nd will feature the 5K Run/walk sponsored by the Sodus Bay Lighthouse Museum. Registration is required at: https://yellowjacketracing.com/races/sodus-bay-lighthouse-5k. Check-in begins at 7:30am and the race begins at 9am.
July 3rd will feature the Kiddie Parade sponsored by NASP. This will begin at 10am from the Firehall. Bring your kids and grandkids dressed up for the holiday to walk to the lighthouse for some treats. The fireworks will occur that evening about 10pm from the west pier.
July 4th will feature Gap Mangione at the Lighthouse lawn from 2-4pm. Bring your blanket or chairs for this annual event. The concert is free and refreshments will be available for sale onsite.
A community-wide team effort is underway to plan a summer event for Sodus Point.
The Sodus Point & Lighthouse Splash on Saturday, Aug. 6 will celebrate all our village has to offer visitors, including marking the 150th anniversary of the Sodus Bay Lighthouse.
The intent of the event is to showcase our history, waterfront, and businesses, and serve as a model for future events during the fall, winter, and spring. To learn how you can be part of the planning team or an event sponsor, please contact Village Trustee Jennifer Evans, owner of the new Sodus Bay Outfitters, at (585) 729-2041 or email@example.com, or you may contact event organizer Dresden Engle at (585) 319-1812 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Sunshine Car Parade will occur on Saturday, September 3rd. This will be followed by Fireworks at 9pm. More details will follow later this summer.
3- Village Notes
The next brush collection will be May 16th. In June they are the 6th and 27th. Please plan accordingly.
Grinding of all the accumulated brush will occur within the next couple of weeks. That is the first big step needed to get to work on the Mark Jones Sr. Park. Once that is done the highway department will take any remaining debris out and begin to grade the area. Following that, topsoil and seeding can be done so that we can establish a lawn for picnic tables and other amenities.
4- Some Fascinating History:
A special “Thanks” to Dawn Collier Cole for sharing a 1940’s video of a converted 16mm film.
