We had the opportunity to review our efforts and plans moving forward with the DEC on Friday. They are pleased with our plan and progress implementing. They acknowledge that we are not out of the woods.
We are seeing a significant increase in flows, especially when it rains. We know that the increase in hydraulic pressure is causing some infiltration in our pipe seams. This is a concern that we will continue to watch.
Since the increase is greatest when it rains, that is further evidence that many sump pumps are connected to the system throughout the village. This is causing us problems and we ask each of you to check your pump and if it is connected, move the discharge to the yard, street, etc. It is against NYS law to discharge sump pumps, downspouts, etc. into the wastewater system.
We are aware of several people whose pumps are simply running around the clock. The water table is way up so you are simply circulating water. Consider raising your pump when you change its discharge.
Updates will be issued if anything changes one way or the other.
