Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced $7 million in state funding to assist homeowners
May 29,2017 Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced $7 million in state funding to assist homeowners and enforcement of a 5 mph speed limit on boaters within 600 feet of the shoreline.
* The state is setting aside a new fund of $7 million to assist homeowners in rebuilding and repairing foundations, basements and other property damage. Cuomo said the state will assist those who cannot get insurance coverage, and will reimburse homeowners up to $40,000, based on a income scale. Senior citizens will be assisted regardless of income. Homeowners can get more information from the Office of Community Renewal by emailing email@example.com or calling 518-474-2057.
* As of today, the state will enforce a 5 mph speed limit on boaters within 600 feet of the shoreline, anywhere from the Niagara River to the St. Lawrence River. That is meant to reduce wakes and waves that could cause further property damage.
* The state is speeding up the delivery of money to assist property owners through the Clean Water Initiative.

Sodus Point Wastewater System Update – April 19, 2017
When Plan 2014 was approved in December the village began to work with our engineer regarding actions that we needed to take. Our engineers have outlined the long term remediation actions needed and we have begun to seek funding for that.
Since we are faced with a potential flood now, we have waterproofed all 49 manholes that are below 250 above sea level using temporary solutions approved by our engineer. We chose that level because all the triggers in Plan 2014 are under 249 feet. There is no guidance on the right height to plan for from any source, Plan 2014 has left us all on our own.
We will begin next to waterproof the 3 pump stations that are below 250 feet. We will do that in a 2-step process. First, we will caulk and lay plastic and then cover the tops with sand bags. If the water continues to come up, we will build moats around the stations and deploy pumps, much like Arney’s has done.
We are taking these steps so that bay/lake water does not enter our system and over whelm it. If your sump pump discharges into your wastewater line, moving that to discharge outside will both help now and bring you into compliance with NYS codes.
It is our goal to keep everything running. If we begin to experience problems that indicate that may not be possible we will let you know.
We continue to meet with our engineer to take all the steps we can. We are also meeting with Wayne County Water Authority on Friday to seek their advice and help as we move forward.
Updates will be issued if anything changes one way or the other. You will be able to see the water level on the village website, soduspoint.info soon. There are several sites on the internet where this is available today.

Flooding Updates & Sand Sandbag information
Keeping you abreast of what is going on with the water level. We are approximately 5 inches from flood stage; Arney’s building is already in it. Advisory from Barry Virts
April 10, 2017 Sheriff Barry Virts has toured Lake Ontario and Sodus Bay shorelines, and urges boaters to stay as far away as possible from any shoreline to reduce shoreline erosion, protect property and to avoid docks that may still be submerged. The Navigation Law requires a 100 foot No Wake Zone, but Sheriff Virts […]
Sodus Point Village Hall Moving Forward
The Sodus Point Village Board has begun to look at how to best move forward with improving the village hall. For years, there have been HVAC issues, space issues, window issues and plenty of needed maintenance. After the recent wind storm, which caused new cracks in several walls we called in the village engineer for advice. We are continuing to work with him and others to review options available.
Initial estimates indicate fixing the existing structure may be very expensive. As we work to get a more accurate picture of that work and associated costs, we have begun to explore other options. Those include rebuilding on the current site, building on an alternate site or renovating another existing structure.
There remains a great deal of work to do as we move forward. No decisions have been made nor can they be made until we get all the information so that we can make the best decision for the village.
It is likely that there will be more executive sessions called as we work through these issues. Those sessions are used to discuss negotiation strategy and specific issues and concerns with proposals. Any actions taken in executive session will be reported back in regular meetings.
