Weekly Water Levels Update
May 15, 2018
Despite a dry first 2 weeks of May, the upper lakes continue to bring us plenty of water. A reduction in outflows to support shipping has also contributed to the rise. Over the last 2 weeks, the outflows have been gradually been increased. Outflows are now in the range of the outflows in March. The water levels are now just under 247’. Friday’s forecast called for another inch of rise in the next 4 weeks. So far, these estimates have been on the low side, but it appears we will not exceed 247.3.
You will see that the water is creeping up towards Arney’s building. This morning 1,000 sandbags were delivered there in the event they are needed. These were filled last week by some inmates and Wayne County Highway.
As soon as we reach the peak and begin the annual drop, we will provide direction regarding removing the sandbag walls. Until then we ask that you leave any walls in place.
