Village Updates from Mayor McDowell

Village Update – July 12, 2018

Thank you to the many volunteers and employees around the village who helped to make our independence day celebrations great. There were many activities around the village and they all were well attended. 166 ‘cars’ participated in the Sunshine Auto parade which is the most ever in its 15 year history. The village was very full again on Wednesday as the activities began early in the morning and lasted through the concert in the afternoon. The celebrations closed out on Sunday with the Lighthouse 5K. We have debriefed with the Sheriff’s office and have a few changes to make next year to improve both parking and traffic flow.

Yesterday was the infamous Blow Off Day which seems to have taken on a life of its own. Most seemed well behaved and kept in line. The police response to the incident in the late afternoon was swift and precise. I know some would prefer the event not to occur; it primarily takes place on the public waterway. We already have a meeting scheduled with the Sheriff’s office to debrief on this event. All options will be explored.

Wolcott Street is now a 2 way street from Greig St to Gardenier Lane Extension. This was approved by the village board in the summer of 2015 and never implemented. It is expected to improve the traffic flow in that small area.

The next Village Board meeting is next Thursday the 19th at 6:30. These meetings are open to the public.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
